Ironman South Africa training camp

March 16th – March 23rd
March 23rd – March 30th

3YO offers an Ironman South Africa training camp to remember. We have planned a packed training week full fun yet hard yards. Swimming with the sun on your back, to be in a state of the art 50m outdoor pool, otherwise open water swimming in the dam of a beautiful wine estate. Cycling will include some of the most scenic rides in the world with views of surrounding mountains and vineyards. Running free to guarantee some awesome landscapes like a nearby nature reserve.

The Ironman South Africa training camp will include: 7 nights accommodation at a bike-inn B&B, airport transfers, unlimited use of pool and gym, building /boxing of your bike. 2 Training sessions a day, an training Olympic distance triathlon. We take out the headache of planning your Ironman training camp. 

The Ironman South Africa training camp activities are subject to weather conditions and no swim, cycles or run are compulsory. Additional camp dates pre/post date of arrival or departure can be accommodated at additional fix price per day. We further are willing to help with any advice or booking of additional activities pre, during or post the training week.

Ironman South Africa training camp itinerary

Day 1 – Friday

  • Pick up from airport and check-in
  • Bike build by bike shop
  • Early afternoon easy ride 30-40km
  • Open water swim at beautiful private dam

Day 1 – Notes
3YO are able to facilitate bike hire for those clients who prefer not bring their own bikes. Our partner, BMT can also facilitate any services and repairs.
All long rides will have: additional drinks, a first aid kit and puncture equipment

Don’t forget to bring your wetsuit

Day 2 – Saturday

  • Morning 130-150km km ride
  • Brick run (5 km)
  • Brunch followed by presentation of plans for the week
  • Late afternoon easy recovery swim

Day 2 Notes:
Stellenbosch is a university town, it has a wonderful variety of small restaurants and cafes in addition to some of the best restaurants in the country. There are many quaint and quirky little eateries and place to explore on foot and the central area of Stellenbosch is lovely to amble around.

Day 3 – Sunday

  • Morning long run (2-2.5hours)
  • Technique & drills swim session

Day 4 – Monday

  • Morning long ride 110 km including tempo efforts
  • Lunch in Stellenbosch under your own arrangements
  • Afternoon 1 hour squad swim

Day 5 – Tuesday

  • Track session
  • 3YO-100 swim challenge
  • Recovery ice bath session
  • Pre-book massages

Day 5 – Notes
Massages need to be pre-booked, 1x massages is included in the price for the week. Optional extreme recovery Cryotherapy session (minus 170 degrees) at an additional cost can be arranged.

Day 6 – Wednesday

  • 3YO specific hill repeats – bike/run session & transition practice
  • Late afternoon recovery run (route-recci for triathlon Thursday)

Day 7 – Thursday

  • 3YO Triathlon practice – 1km swim, 43km bike (3 laps), 8km run (2 laps)
  • Rental bike returns
  • Additional pre-booked massages

Day 8 – Friday

Today everyone departs to various destinations. Some people may be using this opportunity to explore South Africa further and others may be heading home. But before everyone leaves, well will have a short triathlon. Distances:1km swim, 45 km bike ride and 10 km run.

Ironman South Africa training camp excludes

International flights. Bike rent (175 euro / week), wetsuit rent (20 euro). All drinks other than specified. Additional meals, gratuities other than with included meals. All items of a personal nature. Activities/tours not specified. Visa fees (not needed on most passports). Travel and medical insurance.
